Introduction on material handling

Have you ever thought why are equipment needed to handle material?
Or even, what is material handling?

We have found out some information to let you understand better.

According to the Britannica online Encyclopedia, “materials handling” refers to the movement of raw goods from their native site to the point of use in manufacturing, their subsequent manipulation in production processes, and the transfer of finished products from factories and their distribution to users or sales outlets.

While we will explain as:

Material handling is required from receiving to in-storage handling and to shipping. Handling can mean activities such as loading/unloading and inspection. Whenever there is a movement of product, it requires handling.

So, in order to have efficient movement (handling) of goods, handling equipment is used.

Some of the handling equipment used in the industry:

1. Forklift Trucks.
2. Walkie-Rider Pallet Trucks
3. Towlines
4. Tow Tractor with Trailers
5. Conveyors
6. Carousels
7. Pick-to-Light Systems
